A Newbie’s Guide to Affiliate Marketing

*

A Newbie’s Guide to Affiliate Marketing

If you’re fairly new to affiliate marketing you may have noticed that some of the terminology can be somewhat confusing. I thought I’d do my best to demystify some of the language for you.

Affiliate marketing itself is the business of marketing other people’s products and services in exchange for a reward – usually money!

You can be an affiliate directly for a company who offers their product or service or you can get registered with some of the various affiliate marketing networks. These affiliate networks have made a business of matching up advertisers and publishers.

The advertisers are paying the publishers a commission to go out and market and sell for them. The publishers are those who specialize in the advertising and marketing of products and services on the internet.

This gives the advertisers a huge pool of publishers to introduce their products to and it give publishers a place to search for products and services that they would like to market online. This way you can search for products that are a good fit for your website and/or your target audience.

Whether you are working directly with the product company or through a network make sure you understand the terms of service before you get started. You will be required to get registered with them – providing your personal information including your social security number. Some companies will have you also fill out a W-9 upon registration so that once your commission reaches $600 they can send you a 1099 for tax purposes. Remember, you are not an employee for any of these companies so you will need to keep track of your income for tax purposes.

Each program should clearly state what and how you will be paid to perform certain tasks.

You will usually be paid per sale, per lead and/or per action. A sale is a completed sale of a product. Per lead is basically where you drive traffic to an opt-in page and your referrals sign up to find out more about the product or service. Per action is where your referral performs a certain action such as: filling out a survey, applying for something like a credit card offer, or signing up for something like a singles site. Some of these per action offers are free and some of them require your referral to pay something … like maybe a free learning CD but they pay the shipping cost.

You will get paid a flat sales commission rate, a percentage of sale rate, a recurring/ongoing sales commission, or a fee for a specific action. There are all kinds of variations of these too. You might be paid a flat sales commission and a recurring commission for every month that your referral remains a monthly subscriber. You might make a certain fee if your referral fills out page one of a form, another if they advance to page two, and so on. It’s important to get familiar with the different methods of payment rewards and understand them completely.

Another way to earn with your affiliate marketing business is to refer other publishers to the affiliate program or affiliate marketing network. An example of this is PepperJam Network is currently paying their publishers a $7.00 referral commission (normally $5.00) and MarketLeverage pays their publishers 5% commission on all of their referrals’ commission earned. For instance, if you were to use my link and sign up with PepperJam Network to also be a publisher I would be paid $7.00 (right now you would also be paid $10.00 ~ just for signing up!). If you decided to use my link to get signed up with MarketLeverage I would be paid 5% of your total monthly commissions and you would get the same for your referrals. Pretty cool huh?

I would love to answer any questions you have about affiliate marketing so just ask away!

Are you an affiliate marketer? Do you prefer working directly with the product company or working through an affiliate network? What are you favorite affiliate networks? Do you market products, services, CPA’s or what? I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Blog Action Day: Poverty ~ Can One Person Make a Difference?

*

Blog Action Day: Poverty ~

Can One Person Make a Difference?

I’ll be honest with you … I couldn’t wait to get up this morning. October 15th was finally here!

A while back I read a post on Daniel Scocco’s blog, Daily Blogging Tips, announcing the return of Blogging Idol … “Blogging Idol 2″ … and he said he’d post the details today … October 15th. I was very new to blogging when I discovered the last Blogging Idol and I remember thinking, “If they do this again … I really want to be involved in this.”

Between the usual, “Get dressed, brush your hair … have you brushed your teeth?” rush of getting my kids out the door for school I jumped on my computer and found Daniel’s post … “Blog Action Day: Why I Think the Internet Is Key to Combating Poverty.” Huh? Blogging Idol … where’s Blogging Idol? I want my chance to shine and take the blogging world by storm … Blog Action Day?! Huh?

My kids missed the bus (*sigh*) and as I’m driving them to school Daniel’s post started to really sink in. Here I am in the ordinary rush of yet another day of trying to “make a living online” … and I had to stop and think … “Suzanne, get over yourself! There are people out there who won’t get a meal today … simply by fate or circumstance.” That’s heavy! That’s HUGE! That’s tragic … that sucks guys! It really, really sucks. I’m wondering … have a single one of you reading this ever had to go without a meal (much less several) because it just wasn’t available? And you know I don’t mean that they were out of your favorite prime rib dinner by the time you got to the restaurant!

When I got home I followed the links in Daniel’s post to the Blog Action Day site and I was so impressed with what I found there. Their call to action is to: Publish, Donate, or Promote.

I personally feel moved to do all three:

  1. I will publish this post;
  2. I will Donate (microloan – cool concept) $25.00 to Kiva.org
  3. I will spend several hours today promoting Blog Action Day on the sites and networks where I frequent (Twitter, Twitter Moms, MySpace, Ryze, WAHM.com, ShoutLife, etc.) asking others to take part.

I sat there wondering if there was any way I … me … one person … could actually make a difference in the world … helping fight poverty? Well, I believe I can … will you please join me?

My call to action:

  1. Please post about this on your blog;
  2. Please donate something … anything … to one of the chosen charities or one of your choice (any amount will truly help);
  3. Please promote Blog Action Day and keep this spirit of generosity and humanity circulating today!

A special “thank you” to Daniel Scocco for opening my eyes to Blog Action Day … and I’ll keep you all posted on the whole Blogging Idol thing …

Had you heard of Blog Action Day? Do you want to help the less fortunate? Are you able and/or willing to blog about this today? Will you join me and donate something … anything … to this wonderful cause? Let’s prove that ONE person really can make a difference … will it be you? Let me know your thoughts. *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. Be sure you put October 15th on your calendar from here forward (actually you can register as early as August 15th to get a head start).

Leave a comment below and let others see how one person really can make a difference … and maybe use the bookmark button below to help get the word out about this important cause. Thanks!

RSS Feed ~ How to Subscribe

*

RSS Feed ~ How to Subscribe

RSS Feed … it’s likely a term that you’ve heard of but not many of us understand what it is or how to subscribe to the blogs that we enjoy. LOL.

So what is an RSS Feed?

An RSS Feed according to Google in their Feed 101 information:

“Feeds are a way for websites large and small to distribute their content well beyond just visitors using browsers. Feeds permit subscription to regular updates, delivered automatically via a web portal, news reader, or in some cases good old email.”

If you visit a blog and you enjoy their content you can look to see if they offer an RSS Feed subscription.  If you subscribe (either through a feed reader or through your email) you will be notified each time they update the blog. That way you won’t have to bookmark the site and check back every so often to see if they’ve updated their blog.

How to Subscribe

As I mentioned, if you visit a blog and you enjoy the content you should consider subscribing to their RSS Feed. You can either subscribe through a feed reader or through email delivery. This way you will be notified every time the blog has been updated. If you subscribe through a reader you will see the updates each time you check your feed reader. For example I use iGoogle as my homepage and there I have set up feeds to some of the blogs I follow.

By using iGoogle as my homepage and by setting up some of my favorite blogs in my Google feed reader I am able to take a glance at the newest post titles for each and then I can read the ones that interest me (see image below). I actually prefer having email subscriptions to the blogs I follow and that way the updates arrive in my inbox whenever there’s been new content added. Not all blogs offer the email option and it’s usually just a lack of set up knowledge on the blogger’s part.

You might have noticed the big orange arrow that points you in the right direction to subscribe to my RSS Feed. To the right of that arrow you have two choices for subscribing … either through a feed reader or through an email subscription (image below).

When you click on the “RSS Feed” option you will be taken to a page where you can choose how you want to subscribe (image below). It will give you some options for different feed readers or an option to subscribe through email.

If you click on the “Get Money Making Ideas ~ Suzanne Franco delivered by email” or on the “Email Subscription” button next to the orange arrow in my opt-in box it will activate a pop-up box (image below) where you can enter your email address. You will then be sent a confirmation email and you will need to click the link in the email to actually activate the feed delivery.

It’s really pretty simple to get subscribed to your favorite blogs through RSS Feed and I hope this has cleared up any confusion about how or why you’d want to subscribe. With that said … go ahead and subscribe for my RSS Feed right now!

Did you know how to subscribe to your favorite blogs? Do you prefer using a feed reader or receiving updates through your email? Do you have any questions about RSS Feeds or about how to get signed up for my RSS Feed? I’d love to hear your feedback and your questions. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Make Money From Home With GPT – It’s Legitimate and It’s Free!

*

Make Money From Home With GPT -

It’s Legitimate and It’s Free!

I get email after email asking me how to make money online and to be quite honest there are a lot of ways to make money online … it just comes down to knowledge, experience, willingness to learn … and how much time and money you have. Of course one of the biggest factors is just plain personal preference.

As a WAHM (work at home mom) I’ve spent a lot of time on WAHM forums and that’s where I’ve learned how to make money with a GPT (get paid to) business. I’ve met gals who are making an extra $100 bucks a month … and some who are making over $2,000 a month … it depends on your efforts and your business model.

The term GPT (“Get Paid To”) generally covers getting paid to take online surveys, but it can also include being part of a focus group, trying out new products and giving your feedback, participating in free trials, reading emails, or even writing posts on message boards and forums.

If you have an internet connection and some extra time I can show you step-by-step how to launch your new business venture. You can start earning money within a matter of minutes (literally). It’s free and anyone can do it (yes, you too guys … LOL).

Keep in mind … this isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme but you can make a full-time income if you follow my step-by-step instructions. It’s not glamorous work ~ but it’s legitimate … and it’s FREE! You can work your own hours and you can even do it with a baby in your lap! Do yourself a favor and at least check it out!

Why will they pay you?

There are many companies out there who deem these simple tasks valuable and they are willing to pay you for your time and efforts.

Let’s take paid surveys for instance. There are many companies out there that need to do market research to find out what people like, what they are interested in, what they might possibly purchase, etc. The most efficient way for them to get this information these days is through online surveys. One reason this has become so vital to their business is due to the changes in telemarketing laws and the “No Call List.” If you are willing to spend the time to help with these market research surveys, they will reward you!

Let’s look at another example … Have you ever followed a link to a forum only to find very few members and not a lot of new topics? What do you do? That’s right … you leave. The forum owner has taken the time to set it all up and has even done a great job of driving traffic to the site, but if visitors don’t see much action when they arrive they aren’t going to stay and participate. That’s why some forum owners will pay you for your participation on their boards. They will hire posters until they can get their forum up and running with “real” participants.

So if you want to make some extra money … read the simple steps I have outlined in my “GPT Step-By-Step” post. If you need any help with getting your new GPT business started please contact me and I’ll be happy to help.

*SmiLes* Suzanne Franco

P.S. Once you are all set up you can make even more money just by sharing this business idea with others.

GPT (Get Paid To) Step-By-Step

*

GPT (Get Paid To) Step-By-Step

In an earlier post I introduced the idea of making some extra money by starting a GPT (Get Paid To) business and here are the simple steps to get that started. If you’re familiar with GPT and would like to see the companies that I’m registered with and get signed up you can go check out list of Legitimate GPT Companies. I’m here to help so ask your questions in the comments or you can contact me through the blog.

GPT Step-By-Step

  1. Set up at least 3-5 email addresses to use just for your GPT work. You might want to try Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and Gmail (Google). *Note: you could receive a lot of email and possibly spam so that’s why I suggest you set up separate email addresses for your GPT work.
  2.

  3. If possible, set up an online phone number/voicemail. You can try K7 or AIM (AOL) and see if they are still issuing free phone numbers. Try to get a phone number that is local to your area if possible … this will better your chances at getting accepted for work. *Note: you could receive a lot of phone calls and possibly unwanted solicitors so that’s why I suggest you set up an online phone number.
  4.

  5. If you don’t have a PayPal account you can set one up here: PayPal. Some companies will offer to pay you through PayPal and others will send you a check. If you chose to be paid through PayPal be sure to find out if there is a charge to be paid that way.
  6.

  7. Visit my list of the GPT companies that I recommend and click on the ones you want to participate in (might as well get set up with all of them – it’s free). The more you sign up for the more work you will get and the more money you will make!
  8.

  9. When you register with these GPT companies be sure you use all of your “real” information (name, address, and phone number). You can use one of the email addresses you just set up if you’d like but make sure you check that email address often so that you know when they are running specials or trying to communicate with you.
  10.

  11. When you are actually filling out surveys use your real information (name, address, age, gender, number and ages of kids, etc.) and then I suggest you use one of the email addresses you have set up just for this work.
  12.

  13. It is suggested that before and after each survey you clear/delete the “cookies” on your computer. You cannot set up multiple accounts on the same computer (IP address) and NEVER try to set up multiple accounts.
  14.

  15. Start out by completing “free” or “100% free” offers until you get the hang of it. You can make a lot more money by completing the trial offers but make sure you are ready to follow the steps necessary to do that. Let me know if you need some help.

GPT Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s
Set up 3-5 email addresses dedicated to your GPT business
Alternate between email addresses for different surveys and offers
Set up a dedicated online voicemail
Check email and voicemail often and complete work as quickly as possible
Set up a PayPal account to accept payments
Delete your “cookies” before each survey or offer

Don’ts
Don’t use your main email address (except when registering with the GPT companies)
Don’t use your home phone number when filling out survey info
Don’t use the same computer to set up multiple accounts
DO NOT try to set up multiple accounts

Q’s and A’s – You’ve Got Questions and I’ve Got Answers

Q. So what’s the catch?
A. There’s no “catch” ~ these companies need your help and they’re willing to pay for it.

Q. Are there any costs to get started?
A. There are NO costs to get started and, in fact, many of the GPT companies will even pay you a registration bonus as an incentive to try out their company. From time to time there are programs/offers where you can opt to try out a product on a trial basis. These sometimes require you to pay shipping (usually $2-$4) or to pay for a certain amount of service. Double check but these should pay you more than the fee required out of pocket … leaving you a profit.

Q. How often will these companies need my help?
A. Every company will have different needs and each will also take demographics into consideration. Every company, product and service will have a different market group they are looking for so just be patient.

Q. How often will I get paid?
A. Each company is different and you will need to read their payout terms. Some pay daily and some pay monthly. Also be aware that sometimes you will need to accrue a minimum amount to be cashed out and paid.

Q. Am I committed to certain hours or a certain number of surveys?
A. NO! That’s the beauty of doing GPT offers … You only work when you want to work and only participate when you’re interested in the work.

Q. Will I get paid more if I go directly to these companies instead of clicking on your affiliate links?
A. No. You will not make any more money by going directly to these companies. If you feel I have helped you with getting your GPT business started then I’d appreciate you using my links. If you decide you’d like to grow your income by referring others I’d be happy to help you get that set up too.

If you are ready to get started with a GPT business please follow these steps and be sure to contact me if you have any questions. If you’re on still deciding just let me know what would help you decide to move forward.

Does this sound interesting? Be sure you read my “Make Money From Home wtih GPT” now!

GPT (Get Paid To) List of Legitimate Companies

I love showing others how to make money online and one way you can earn some extra income is by starting a GPT (Get Paid To) business. It’s free … it’s legitimate … and anyone with an internet connection can do it. If you’re not familiar with GPT you can read my “Make Money From Home With GPT” post, as well as, my “GPT (Get Paid To) Step-By-Step” post. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions … I’d be happy to help in any way.

Here are the GPT companies that have a solid reputation and that I know pay (either from personal experience of from someone I trust completely).

CashCrate

CashCrate has the highest referral payouts. You start at 20% for first level referrals and 10% for second level referrals. But you can ultimately reach a 30%/20% payout level!! No other site even comes close. You also receive a $3.00 bonus for EVERY member you refer who reaches the $10 minimum payout. CashCrate has also added a UK offer section for people who live in the UK.

DealBarbiePays

DealBarbiePays has a 2 level referral system and many great offers and surveys! For each first level referral, you are paid 20% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 10%. There are also lots of contests, promos, and a game where you can earn a lot of extra cash.

DealBarbiePaysFast

DealBarbiePays has a 3 level referral system and many great offers and surveys! For each first level referral, you are paid 15% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 3%. For third level referrals, you are paid 2%. Payments are made 3 times a week via PayPal on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There is also a check option. Check payments will be sent the first and third Friday of every month.

Cash Lagoon

Cash Lagoon has 3 referral levels. For each first level referral, you are 15% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 15% of 15% (which equals 2.25%). And for 3rd level referrals, you are paid 15% or 15% of 15%. This doesn’t sound like much, but if your referrals refer people, this really adds up. I’ve seen a lot of people in different forums saying how much they like this site. Cash Lagoon also offer $5 minimum daily payouts.

Squishy Cash

Squishy Cash has a 3 level referral system. For each first level referral, you are paid 20% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 5%. And for 3rd level referrals, you are paid 2%. This site has incredible contests that give lots of people the chance to earn a lot of extra money!

Craving Cash

Craving Cash has a 3 level referral system. For each first level referral, you are paid 15% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 5%. And for 3rd level referrals, you are paid 2%.

My Cash Honey

My Cash Honey has 1 referral. For each first level referral, you are paid 25% of their earnings.

Interneational Offers

International Offers has low daily payouts, is open to the international community, and has a 3 level referral system. For each first level referral, you are paid 15% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 3%. And for 3rd level referrals, you are paid 2%.

DIY.fmsfreebies

DIY.fmfreebies pays you 15% of your first level referral earnings. They have nice offer payouts.

Anything Free 4 You

Anything Free 4 You pays you 10% of your first level referral earnings. They have nice offer payouts.

SwatCash

SwatCash is also a lot like CashCrate and TreasureTrooper, but they do not have a second level referral program. The first level referral payout is 20%, making it one of the highest first level referral payouts in the business. Some offers also have a good pay out rate (a higher payout for the same offer).

RockHardCash

RockHardCash has 3 referral levels and a nice payout. For each first level referral, you are paid 20% of their earnings. For second level referrals, you are paid 5%. For third level referrals, you are paid 2%.

Now, let’s do some quick math. If you sign up for 12 companies and commit to completing $2.00 worth of surveys/offers per day for 22 days of the month … you’d earn $528 a month. That shouldn’t take you more than an hour a day to complete. Of course if you do more than that … you’ll earn more than that. If you decide you also want to refer others … you will earn even more.

Be sure you read my “GPT (Get Paid To) Step-By-Step” post and let me know if you have any questions.

Have you ever tried GPT to make money? Did you find it worth the time? Did you refer any other members? I’d love to hear your thoughts and your questions. *SmiLes* Suzanne

If you’re reading this list but aren’t quite sure how to make money with GPT be sure you read my “Make Money From Home with a GPT Business” and my “GPT Get Paid To Step By Step” and let me know if you hae any questions.

My “Sticktoitiveness” Interview ~ I’m Famous! LOL

*

My “Sticktoitiveness” Interview!

One of my online friends, Soggy Dave, interviewed me for his Build A Niche Store Blog and he posted: “Sticktoitiveness: An Interview With Suzanne Franco” this morning.

Head on over and read about my struggles and successes with my BANS (Build A Niche Store) business and be sure to look around his blog (and even subscribe to his feed) while you’re there. He’s got a ton of great information about BANS and about online promoting … and I’ve learned a great deal of what I’m doing right there on his blog.

Sticktoitiveness: An Interview With Suzanne Franco

Be sure to leave a comment and let me (us) know what you think.

Are you having any struggles or successes with your online business? Has anyone helped you along the way? Do you enjoy helping others with their online business? I’d love to hear from you! *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. I’ve used one of Dave’s templates for the last two stores I’ve put up and I honestly owe much of the success of these stores to this template. I have a WordPress blog on the root domain and he has integrated the BANS store into the blog … so the store navigation shows up on the right sidebar. I just LOVE it! He has several different template choices so check out what he has and he can always point you in the right direction if you need help.

Diversify Your Online Income Streams

*

Diversify Your Online Income Streams

We’ve all heard the old saying, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” and when it comes to running your online business I think it’s very important to live by that and diversify your online income streams as much as possible.

I can’t tell you how many times a week I read on a blog or forum that the income stream that someone was using to rake in some great money … just went down … or worse yet … went away completely!

This could be as simple as a seasonal niche or as awful as having your site deindexed by Google or from being kicked out of an affiliate program that was paying the bills.

Not only would I suggest you diversify your business types I would even suggest that you diversify your potential income streams on each and every site … and for each business. By this I mean that instead of focusing all of your time and energy, for instance, on building and promoting BANS (Build a Niche Stores) stores I would also look at some other business models for making some money. To further break that down … if you have BANS stores I would also diversify how you make your income on each and every BANS store. I would be looking for ways to make money through other affiliate products and probably some other means as well.

Let’s use a BANS store as an example. If you have a store selling computers you might also look for affiliate products and services that would make sense to have on a computer site. There might be some software programs, protection products, extended warranties, internet service, hosting service, books and/or magazines, eBooks, gadgets, music download services, large electronic retailers, etc. If it’s your area of expertise you might even check into writing an eBook of your own. But the important thing here is to look for ways to sell these items … through someone other than eBay. But, Suzanne … this is an eBay store. Well, I think you’d be wise to put a WordPress blog (preferably on the root domain – but that’s another whole post) where you can write blog posts and integrate these other products and programs. You could probably add some other advertising there too. Weave these sales links into some content whenever possible so your site won’t be viewed as a link farm! You might also consider a forum for the site. Niche forums usually do very well in the search engines and it will also help you get recognized as an authority in your niche. You could then either sell advertising on your forum or place your own affiliate ads there too.

What would you do if you had a store that was a very good producer and you suddenly lost your relationship with eBay? You’d be out of business and the backlinks you’ve worked so hard to build and the page rank … all for what? But if you already had these other income streams in place it wouldn’t hurt nearly as much as being put out of business in a split second.

Do you diversify your income streams? Do you have any ideas or hints that you can share here to help others? What are the pros and cons of diversifying your income streams? What questions do you have about diversifying? I’d love to hear from you on this. *SmiLes* Suzanne
