BANS (eBay Affiliate Program) Earnings Update Feb, Mar, and April 2009

by on May 4, 2009

*
It’s that time … time for me to give you an update on my BANS (Build a Niche Stores) business and my other EPN (eBay Partner Network) profits here on the blog. If you haven’t been following along you can take a look at my BANS profits for June 2008 ($203.36), my BANS profits for July 2008 ($269.41), my BANS profits for August 2008 ($531.51) and my BANS profits for September 2008 ($821.74). Or you can get an overview by seeing my last post update of my BANS profits for October, November, December and January.
I could see my numbers were down a bit this month and I was “tracking” to do just over $500 and then on May 1st I logged in to get my final numbers and they were down! Huh? What? Well, they changed my ACRUs (new eBay customer sign ups) from $40/per to $28/per. Since my ACRUs started out at $25 and were as low as $10 at one time I shouldn’t be too upset but it was shocking and somewhat upsetting.

So my income for February 2009 was $533.45, March 2009 was $661.14 and April 2009 was down to $407.05. Considering I haven’t put any work or effort into these sites in the past several months I really can’t complain right?

I will reiterate that you should never put all of your eggs in one basket and online you should definitely diversify your income streams.

Last month I launched a new site, “The Destination Wedding Site,” and I am just starting to integrate some eBay products there (and now Amazon products too) so we’ll see how that goes. For this new site I’m using two new products that I LOVE!!!

The first one I tried is phpBay and it’s a WordPress Plugin that makes it really easy to add eBay auctions to any WP post or page. You can see an example here: Destination Wedding Books.

I can’t tell you how easy this is to do! You add this product like any other plugin and activate it. There’s a very easy to follow manual that walks you through your options and tells you how to do each. The most technical it got (you know me … non-techie! LOL) was I chose an option that required me to copy/paste some code to my .htaccess file and that was very easy too. If you get hung up on any of it there’s a support forum and everyone is very helpful.

The second new product is ReviewAzon and it’s an awesome new plugin that helps you add Amazon products to your WordPress pages and posts and it even pulls in the product description and customer reviews (great for much needed content instead of page full of affiliate links!).

You can see where I used it on my new site here: The Destination Wedding Planner: The Ultimate Guide.

Again, this was a plugin that you add like any other WordPress plugin and then you control it and use it right in your WP admin panel. It also have a great user manual and a support forum that’s been very helpful.

I’ll keep you posted on how these new products do for my sites but I expect great things from them.

Be sure you check them out:

Check out phpBay

Check out ReviewAzon

So here are my eBay numbers for the past several months:

September 2008 – $821.74 (ACRUs $25)

October 2008 – $733.33 (ACRUs $25)

November 2008 – $315.81 (ACRUs $10)

December 2008 – $186.11 (ACRUs $10)

January 2009 – $613.83 (ACRUs $40)

February 2009 – $533.45 (ACRUs $40)

March 2009 – $661.14 (ACRUs $40)

April 2009 – $407.05 (ACRUs $28)

Are you using BANS? Are you using EPN to make money? How have your sales/profits been these last few months? Have you tried phpBay and/or ReviewAzon? Please comment below so we can all learn from each other. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Sounds like you are doing quite well Suzanne! That is awesome. I haven’t been doing anything with BANS for ages now, but I still made $60 last month – from one sale :D

Suzanne –

Good deal ont he BANS earnings!! Many people I talk with have gone the opposite and their bans only sites have tanked pretty hard… but again… the amount of income is usually equal to the amount of effort placed into them.

In ref to April going down a bit – that’s usually a seasonal thing, and April is one of, if not THE, weakest sales month of the year for most businesses.

Note: The commentluv plugin shows a cURL error down there below the comment box. :-)

Congrats again!!

Suzanne, thanks for the heads up about ReviewAZON.

I had recently seen the plugins name mentioned, but did not take the time to investigate it.

I will look into it as your wedding destination book example page looks quite powerful.

It pulls in comments and reviews straight from amazon huh?
Very cool!

What up Suzanne! Man, I was glad to see Mark’s comment on April being a “known” down month! haha

Congrats on the earnings and the new site! I’m sure you’ll do great with it! Misty and I are having a terrible time making decisions! ugggggg!

hey Suzanne,
I like your new wedding blog. Do you know if that main picture on the front page is at Cabo? The rock in the background looks familiar, but I was there long ago and my memory isn’t what it used to be. Maybe I need some Red Bull to kick it into gear. :) ~ Steve, the trade show guru

@tom ~ yeah, a decent BANS store set-up will continue to profit even when ignored. ;) Nice huh?
@mark ~ I hear a log of negative comments about BANS these days but I’ve never had a problem. I work very hard on the launch of my sites/stores as far as SEO, backlinks, articles, decent content, etc. So I don’t feel too bad when I get into cruise mode … and I agree those with thin sites where no work was involved I can see why they are now complaining. I’d never heard that about April so I guess that helps a bit. I would’ve had decent numbers but that drop in ACRU hurt a little bit. Back at it for this month. LOL
@tyler ~ I am loving ReviewAzon! I actually tried a post with both Amazon and eBay and it’s sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the ReviewAzon part up top … and then the eBay auctions at the bottom and it flows perfectly. I’m so happy with these two plugins.
@jake ~ thanks. I’m loving that site ;) You two could always join us LOL … I know you’re not hot on Mexico but it’s going to be so totally awesome … I can’t wait. *huGs*

Hi, Suzanne. This blog helps me to understand a lot. I am a newbie in e-business, so I am working on other people now, but I`m sure, that I can start my own business soon. I have not thought about working with amazon, or eBay actually, but you show me a right way! And I want to say you a great thanks for this!

Cheers, Wisp!

Suzanne, you brought me hope! At the moment I’m chained to my bed – broke my legs in a car accident (long story ..)… Anyway, since I’m not working now, I thought I’d find a way to make some $ without leaving home. Unfortunately almost everything I’ve found so far was either a scam or simply not profitable enough.
But your results, this is amazing! I know you’ve put a lot of work into this and your success hasn’t come overnight, but you’re the first blogger that I believe has earned money blogging. Just when I thought it was impossible!
Thank you!

@diety ~ welcome! i’m so sorry to hear about your accident! that’s horrible. please let me know if i can help in any way … that’s why i’m here. ;) let me know your experience and what you think you need some help with … *huGs* Suzanne

Hi Suzanne –

For a frame of reference, how many live BANS stores do you have? Last month I earned $164. on 1 BANS store. I was happy!

Will look at the 2 plugins you mentioned.

Thanks.

@janet ~ well … when I say BANS I actually mean EPN numbers so I’ve tried to make sure I reference that now in my posts. As for BANS store/sites I have 5 stores and then I use these plugins and eBay/EPN tools to add some auctions on other sites but that’s minimal. Sounds like you’re doing very well … let me know if there’s anything I can help with and I’m happy to do so. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, my first time at your blog but I like what I have read to far. I have to be honest and say that I have never using either product because my main focus has been on Adsense (brings in a very decent monthly income) but after reading this article I probably need to check them out.

I’ve signed up for your feed and will look forward to following your progress.

Hey that’s some great numbers there! Good work!

I actually have never heard about BANS etc before. I heard of selling on Ebay but never got deeply involved into it. But it’s so true what you say, not to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to making money online, so even though I’ve been averaging pretty okay with the way I do things on my own site, I’m definitely going to check this out!

Keep doing what you do. I’m so happy when I come across another woman like myself dominating the MMO world online ;)

These plugins which make integration of ebay and amazon into the blog forum are extremely useful. In the past when I attempted to have any sort of success on ebay I found myself losing interest quickly because I so often had to stop what I was doing to navigate back to their site.

This is certainly a motivator. I have been on the fence about whether using BANS could be profitable for me and whether it was worth the time. Obviously it’s well worth it! Congratulations on all your profits.

Do you find that this kind of earnings is consistent from month to month? I am thinking about attempting to sell on ebay but find myself holding back because I’m concerned about the return.

Have you ever thought about publishing an e-book or guest authoring on other sites? I have a blog based upon on the same subjects you discuss at http://www.suzannefranco.com/bans-ebay-affiliate-program-earnings-update-feb-mar-and-april-2009 and would really like to have you share some stories/information. It’s interesting seeing these tools now that they’re a few years old – the current Amazon and Ebay plugins/themes for Wordpress have improved quite a bit! My favorites are still the ones from PHPBay.
