Are You Sexy? We’re About to Find Out!

I love finding new gadgets for my blog that are not only cool but that serve a function … like helping me blog better or something that helps me promote my blog.

I was visiting my friend Dawn’s blog (about Social Media and Isagenix <— a nutritional cleanse I’m using to lose weight) and while I was commenting I saw her awesome “Sharing is Sexy” plugin and I just had to have it!

It’s a social bookmark plugin that you can display on your posts and/or pages that easily allows your visitors to share your content (you can also use it to quickly bookmark your posts – which you should always do right?).

They have most all of the sites there to choose from and you can simply add the ones you want by checking a box. You then drag them into the order you want them to display in on your site.

So now for the real question … are you sexy? Go ahead … try it! Give me a Retweet, send my post to Facebook … Stumble, Digg … Mister Wong (ß—- one of my personal favs) … and leave me a comment and tell me just how sexy you are! *huGs* Suzanne

Blogging Idol Secrets Revealed

I Finally Changed My Twitter User Name (Post Your Twitter User ID Here)

*

<—— A quick reminder to Retweet if you enjoy the post … Thanks!

new-twitter

Well … I finally did it! I changed my Twitter User Name and for some reason I was really stressed out about it. I’ve used wahmsuzanne (work at home mom Suzanne) for many years on forums and such so when I signed up for Twitter I used it out of habit.

I finally understand the importance of “personal branding” so I wanted to get @suzannefranco for Twitter. I did some searching and I couldn’t find a definitive answer to the question of how to change user names without any problems. I guess somewhere along the line I used my Gmail address to “reserve” @suzannefranco so when I went to switch one night it said it was already taken (Uhhhh …. Duh! LOL). So … now I have thousands of followers on @wahmsuzanne and I want to switch to @suzannefranco.

I thought I’d heard that there was a cooling off period if you let your user name go so I didn’t want to just cancel the @suzannefranco. I finally emailed Twitter. Their response was to change the @suzannefranco to something else, log out and log back into @wahmsuzanne, and then change it to @suzannefranco (you do this by clicking on “Settings”). So … I’ve done so and so far so good. Now … just in case there is some confusion at first I went back and changed the “old” @suzannefranco to @wahmsuzanne. OK … you can shoot me now!

If someone has me saved as @wahmsuzanne or I have a link out there somewhere I will still be notified and I can let the person know about my new user name.

So … if we’re not already following each other on Twitter let’s do so ok?

In fact, if everyone would like to post their Twitter ID in the comments we can all connect and network together. What do you think? *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. This would work best if you put the entire URL in the comments so it’s clickable i.e. http://www.twitter.com/suzannefranco

P.P.S. If you hold down the “Ctrl” button and then click the link it will open in a new window so you can make your way down the whole list easily.

P.P.P.S. Due to adding a link in the comments area your comment will most likely go into my spam … but I will stay on top of this post and approve them as quickly as possible … so please don’t repost over and over again LOL

Twitter – Friend or Follow … Control Your Following/Follower Ratio (Video)

* If you’re reading this via RSS please come on over to the blog to view the video

Twitter Ratio – Do you know how to control it?

So … are you starting to get the hang of Twitter … but you’re ready to learn some of the tips and tricks to using it effectively? Let’s look at one tip today … on how to keep your following/follower ratio where Twitter wants to see it.

When I did my last Twitter post about how to Use Twitter to Promote Your Niche Site I mentioned a 10 % ratio you need to watch out for … and what that means is that Twitter will only allow you to follow 10% more people than the number of people who are following you. So for instance if you have 1,000 followers you will only be able to follow 1,100 people. These don’t need to be the same people but if you go to follow your 1,101st person … Twitter won’t let you follow them.

I had heard about this ratio but until shortly after making that post/video … I hadn’t actually seen it happen … but it did happen to me.

So … now I’m going to teach you one way to keep your ratio under control so you won’t be blocked from following more peeps.

I use Friend or Follow to unfollow people who I follow who aren’t following me back … and I’ll show you in this video how I do so and how I decide whether or not to unfollow someone.

How is your Twitter ratio doing? Are you following more than who are following you back? How do you decide if it’s time to unfollow someone? Do you have any other tips or ideas … or questions? Let us hear from you! *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. If you not already following me on Twitter please do and I’ll follow you back ;) http://www.twitter.com/suzannefranco

Use Twitter to Promote Your Niche Site

*

If you’re reading this via RSS feed please come over to the blog to view the instructional video …

I’m going to show you how to search Twitter profiles and tweets by keyword … making it much easier to promote your niche site on Twitter.

Watch This Video Lesson

Twitter Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s

  • Fill out your profile (with a link to your site)
  • Change your background (go to “Settings”)
  • Use Twellow and Twitter Search to search by keyword
  • Follow a few people at a time (20-40 or so) and try to keep your follow to follower ratio at about 10% (UPDATE: I have no idea at what number they enforce this … but today I’ve confirmed that I’m following exactly 10% more than are following me back and I cannot follow anyone)
  • Do tweet information that’s fun, entertaining, useful and that pertains to your niche
  • Do retweet for those who you are following

Don’ts

  • Don’t use the background that comes with the general set up
  • Don’t leave the generic image on your profile
  • Don’t just start following anyone and everyone
  • Don’t tweet sales pitches when you’re getting started with your new account

Are you promoting on Twitter? Was this video helpful? Did you know you could search Twitter by keyword? Are you using Twitter to grow any of your businesses? Do you have any questions for me? Let us hear from you below! *SmiLes* Suzanne

I also wanted to let you know that my 13 year old son, Austin, is challenging me to a friendly competition and it’s going to be fun for you to follow along. We are both going to start a new niche store on the very same day (at the same time). It looks like we’ll be competing for various things like pages listed in the engines, ranking in Google, Page Rank, and most importantly … earnings. What do you think? We’ll also be documenting all of it as we go so others can learn from us and we’ll all see what works (and maybe what doesn’t).

You can check out his new blog here: Online Money Making Ideas (hey … a little “link juice” for him right? LOL … if you stop by his blog please let him know how he’s doing with it)

Q’s & A’s
I’ve had some great questions submitted for our Q’s & A’s and I’ll start answering those this week too. If you have a question for me that I can share on the blog please submit it using the Contact Us page.

That’s it for today … hope you’re on the webinar with me tonight (there’s a limited number of seats – so sign up now and then go set your alarm for it). He has great tips for using social media to grow your bank account!

Web 2.0 What Is It?

*

Web 2.0 What Is It?

Web 2.0 … undoubtedly you’ve heard the term but do you really know what it means? Well, I’m going to share what it means to me and how I use it to grow my businesses.

So … back in the early days on the internet (Web 1.0) we mostly used our websites to “broadcast” our message. Whether we were providing free information or selling something we were simply “telling” our readers something by providing them information (brochure style) and it was truly a one-way conversation. When you think about early websites they were pages and pages of information with lots of navigation to … yet more pages and pages of information and so on … right?

With that said I’d say the main difference in Web 1.0 and the Web 2.0 concept is that even though we are still broadcasting our message and information to others we also want to be able to interact with our visitors and readers. By interacting I mean we want to be having conversation with them … two-way conversation … in an environment where we actually encourage our visitors and readers to tell us what they’re thinking and what they want from their online experience with us.

Using Web 2.0 techniques is a great way to really get personal with your readers and build rapport and build credibility. Remember … people do business with those who they know, like, and trust.

Let me share my favorite Web 2.0 tools available on the internet.

  1. Forums and Message Boards. I believe forums were the first websites that took on the Web 2.0 mantra of interacting and getting to know each other. There are literally thousands of forums where you can meet and interact with others who share your interests. To find some forums that discuss topics that are interesting to you and/or are a fit for your business type the words “forum + topicname” in the browser. If I wanted to interact with other wine lovers I would type “forum + wine” in my browser and see what comes up. That should help you find some forums to join and to start meeting and interacting with some people who share your interests.
  2. Blogs. A blog or “weblog” as they were first dubbed is a tool that allows you to have a website that instead of reading like a brochure full of one-way information will become a place where your readers and customers can come and interact with you through the “leave a comment” feature that is at the bottom of each article or “post.” As the blog owner you will want to ask questions in your posts and encourage your readers to leave their questions and comments in the comment section. You will also want to actively “interact” with them by actually answering and responding to their questions and comments. People enjoy being part of a community and as time goes on you will get to know your readers and hopefully they will even get to know each other and find your site a nice place to “hang out.”
  3. Social Networking Sites. Social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook are a great way to get to know others and interact with them. By setting up your “profile” and disclosing some things about yourself personally it will give you a way to be a little more personal and eventually give you a means to introduce others to your business. Much like forums social networking sites come in every different “size and shape” and you can find networks for just every topic imaginable (i.e. music, wine, WAHMs, parenting, dogs/animals, etc.). As you get to know someone by interacting on these sites it’s natural that you will eventually become interested in each other’s business. You can find these sites in much the same way by typing the words “social network + topic” in your browser bar.
  4. Social Bookmarking Sites. A social bookmarking site is a place where you can “bookmark” your favorite sites and pages of a site much like you would on your own computer where you store them in your “favorites.” The difference is that these are then stored online in your account on these sites allowing you access to them from any computer instead of just from your own computer. Another difference is that you can make your favorites “public” and your bookmarked favorites will be accessible by others who are members of the bookmarking site. On most of the sites you can also make “friends” just like you would on the social networking sites and you can share your “favorites” amongst your friends and vice versa. Digg, Del.icio.us, and StumbleUpon are three popular bookmarking sites but there are literally hundreds to choose from.
  5. Media Sharing Sites. Media sharing sites are sites where you can upload and “share” pictures and videos. The most popular example is YouTube, the video sharing site, but there are actually a lot of these sites online. Flickr is another example and is known more as a photo sharing site. Much like the other examples I’ve given you it’s a place where you can meet and “follow” others and there’s a social aspect and interaction on the site through the photos and videos.
  6. Yahoo Answers. There are several Question & Answer sites online and my personal favorite is actually Yahoo Answers. You can go there and either search for answers to a question you have or you can post your question and other members will come along and answer your question. Again, two-way interaction and a way to meet others who share an interest in your topic.
  7. Micro Blogging. Micro blogging is probably the newest of the Web 2.0 techniques online today. If you’ve never heard of Twitter you need to at least go check it out. It’s a site where you can broadcast your message or question to the other members … but the “micro” part is that you only have 140 characters to do so. You can find people with similar interests to you and you might “follow” their “tweets” and you will so have “followers” who are interested in hearing what you have to say too.

So to sum it up I’d say that the whole idea of Web 2.0 is to have interaction and two-way conversation while you’re online. Warning! It can be addicting and if you it can eat up valuable work time if you let it. My suggestion is to figure out how much time you have for each of these techniques and then stick to your schedule. Web 2.0 is a very powerful way to become successful online if it’s used properly so please let me know if you have any questions. If you are also using Web 2.0 successfully please share your tips and ideas so we can all learn and grow from the conversation. I’d love to hear your thoughts! *SmiLes* Suzanne

Google Friend Connect ~ What Do You Think?

*

Google Friend Connect ~ What Do You Think?

Google Friend Connect, in beta, is now available to webmasters. I don’t know a whole lot about it but as soon as I saw it had a “comment wall” I wanted to give it a try. I’ve been wanting to put up something just like this where my readers could communicate with me and with other readers without having to leave the message on a specific post … or without having to email me directly.

Of course you will still want to make comments on a specific post when your comment pertains to that topic and I still love getting emails from all of you … but this is just for brief questions or comments.

I’ll leave it on and see how it goes. Things I’ll be watching for are: (1) is anyone interested enough to actually use it, (2) are there so many that I can’t keep up with reading/replying to you, and (3) will some use it to junk up the blog with spam (now … I know none of you reading this would do that … but it could invite drive-by spammers that I’ll have to moderate and such).

If you do give this a try, either here or own your own site, be sure you fill out our profile page and put links (with anchor text) on your profile page to your websites/blogs.

So … what do you think of the concept? Is it something you’ll enjoy? Should I match the colors to the blog or leave the standard colors? Will you be adding it to your blog? Why or why not? Can’t wait to hear what you have to say … so please leave your comments below and maybe “join” our community and leave something on the “comment wall.” *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. Here’s Google’s YouTube video that explains Google Friend Connect

The Power of Networking on the Internet … My 5 Minutes of Fame!

The Power of Networking on the Internet … My 5 Minutes of Fame!

The other night I was on Twitter campaigning for people to support me in my quest to be the next Blogging Idol when I got a very nice message from Jill Hart. Jill is the owner of CWAHM (Christian Work at Home Moms) which is one of the largest WAHM sites on the net today.

Jill told me that she was happy to support me as the next Blogging Idol. She subscribed to my RSS Feed and blogged about my efforts on her site. Her next message to me was a promoter’s dream come true:

“Say, I was just chatting with my BlogTalkRadio co-host and we wondered if you’d want to come on the show on Tuesday for a minute or two and share about the Blogging Idol contest? We already have 2 guests booked, so it would be just a minute or two between guests. You can find out more about the show at http://blogtalkradio.com/cwahm.”

Uhhhhh, let me think about that for a minute … Uhhhhh …. YEAHHHHHH! Too cool!

I’d like to give a huge “THANK YOU” to Jill and Diana for having me on their show. You can listen to my interview on the player below and you can listen to their show on Blog Talk Radio every Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to Noon (EST). If you miss the show you can hear them anytime right there on the site or by downloading the MP3 version.

I had fun in my 5 minutes of fame telling their listeners about the Blogging Idol contest and about a couple of the ways I’ve been promoting myself (like using Twitter, and by making great connections on Twittermoms) and just about the contest in general.

CWAHM is a wonderful resource site for work at home moms. They also have a blog and an active forum. As if that wouldn’t keep any of us busy enough, Jill also co-runs both CWAHD (Christian Work at Home Dads), as well as, Radiant Lit (a Christian book review site). She is also hosting “The Great Online Networking Extravaganza.”

Thanks again ladies and let this be a reminder to all of us that social networking and online promotion does work. You never know who you are going to meet so just get out there and get busy socializing! *SmiLes* Suzanne

And if I haven’t mentioned it … I would be grateful to have your support as I try to earn the title, Blogging Idol this month!

Do you use social networking sites? Which ones are your favorites and why? Have you had any success stories of your own? I’d love to hear your comments and please ask any questions you have.
