Did I Earn the Title “Blogging Idol”? Guess You’ll Have to Decide …

Did I Earn the Title “Blogging Idol”? Guess You’ll Have to Decide

Well … I’ve been waiting for today for … well … since I heard about the first Blogging Idol back in July … and here we are. Seems like a lifetime ago when I first heard about last season’s contestants battling it out for the coveted title.

So … here’s an excerpt from the official decision on Daniel’s site (read the whole decision post here):

“Actually we have three winners! Surprisingly enough, two of them are tied on the first place, and one is taking the third place.

The Winners

The three winners and their respective scores are:

So congratulations to Raghu from HappySchoolsBlog, he is the Blogging Idol!”

My response on Daniel’s site:

“I’m sorry this is so long.

Wow! Where to start … This contest has been life changing for me … sounds dramatic … but it’s true. As a 40-something year old “mom” I’ve spent much of my life “doing” for others … and I truly did “this” for ME. The great part is I knew I’d also be able to help others through my journey (so not totally selfish LOL) and I believe I was able to accomplish that.

A huge thank you to Daniel for the hard work and dedication it took to put this together and to stay up with the contest. Also to the judges and the sponsors who gave so generously. Without all of them this contest would not have happened. If you haven’t taken the time to check out their products/sites … please do that now! They’re all awesome and they deserve a look.

Now to the other contestants who pushed me to work harder than I knew I could. Thank you all! Especially to those who “raised the bar” and kept me going … even when I was exhausted and didn’t want to (Raghu, Matej, Tofugu, Vanae, and many others).

I can’t say enough to thank those who have supported me in this contest. With their kind words, their subscriptions, their votes … their tweeting and retweeting … blogging, and constant encouragement. It means the world to me and I wouldn’t even know how to repay any of you.

I wasn’t shy about wanting that TITLE! So now what? I’m Blogging Idol runner up, tied for 1st, almost made it something or other? One of my readers said I was the “Blogging Queen” or something like that … so maybe I’ll have to solicit for the proper title. Either way I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and hope to help many others find their way as a blogger too.

Remember … there were a lot of great strategies used throughout the competition so I hope everyone will learn from them and use them to their own success. *huGs* to all … Suzanne”

Daniel’s response:

  • 1. @Suzanne, as far I am concerned you can call yourself Blogging Idol too, you scored as many points as the winner after all.

The tie breaker was just used for the prize split.

Congrats on your accomplishments!

Hmmmm …

So … I’ll turn to you … my readers … did I earn the title, “Blogging Idol” or not? I’ve received several emails telling me that I deserved the title and that the judging wasn’t fair because one of the judges didn’t use the proper criteria to make his decision. All I can say is that’s the way it goes sometimes (like it or not LOL). Others have said I’m the “Blogging Queen” … “Blogging Diva” and … I think there was one more … but the point is this. Did I earn the title? Do I let you vote on another title? Do I go without a title? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I would like to close with once again thanking each and every one of you for your support. I did cry a bit this morning … but I’m not sure it was from being defeated as much as just how overwhelmed I am at how many of you wonderful peeps supported my efforts and truly understood how important this was to me. A heartfelt “Thanks!” *huGs* Suzanne

P.S. Also a special “Thank You” to Trackur.com and Text-Link-Ads … I can’t wait to “use” these awesome prizes and share the results with all of you

P.S. Would you like some help making money online? Did you know that sites like Amazon and eBay will pay you to help them sell items that are listed for sale on their site? I can show you how I do it k? Click the banner below or contact me here for more info!

Well, of course you won! You tied for first and Daniel himself said you get to be “The Blogging Idol” so YAY!

Why not take it to the next level and just become the “Queen of the Blogging Idols” YAY!

Congrats- and I wish you would have gotten some prizes!!!!! But your subscribers and the promos are the real win!

We all love you Suzanne! Raghu was my favorite candidate but just because I find his approach to blogging, marketing and the way he writes and finds his content very motivating for myself that does not mean I liked you less hehe 🙂

This competition opened my eyes and I’m motivated more than ever! Just today i worked 5 hours on my new site, long term one with bigger niche. I made couple of mistakes in the competition ( forgetting when voting ends for example :p ) but I’m young, I’m allowed to hehe 🙂

Like Daniel said, you to are Blogging Idol but someone needed to get the first prize – Raghu needed only one vote from the judges and it would be really unfair if he didn’t.

Best of luck Suzanne !!

Yaaayy!! Suzanne you won!!! From 50 Subscribers to 600 subscribers within a month is a victory it self! I still don’t understand HOW DID RAGHU WIN? His subscribers show 1550 and his blog has NO COMMENTS at all! + his alexa is “average” of about 250-600 visitors/day. Fishy..! :-/ There are methods to increase the feedbuner count and one of them is stealing others badge. #2 – I won’t post it here since everyone might start using it and ‘Feedbuner’ would just become a count after that.. nothing else.. 😐 But anyways.. Congrats! 🙂

Suzanne, firstly, CONGRATULATIONS! You stated this is something you did for “ME”, it doesn’t take a reward or a pat on the back to determine if we’re winners. The important fact is that you accomplished your goal. If YOU feel like the winner you are. As far as my vote goes and I don’t know the specifications of the voting criteria, you’re a winner.

I suggest measuring all the benefits of participating in the contest and then consider if you didn’t accomplish your goal as 1st runner up, then you may decide to participate in another award if it will offer validation you may/may not need to promote yourself.

Whatever you decide to do, I’ll be around to support you.

Suzanne: You were a real inspiration with your journey during this contest.

“Official winner” or not, you won this contest hands down in my book with your incredibly inventive and energetic marketing methods.

You can call yourself whatever you like as far as I am concerned, because you certainly earned that right!

What can I say, Blogging Diva sounds pretty good to me, Blogging Queen, what ever you prefer. I feel sure we all support you. Sadly I only discovered you recently or I would have done more to promote you and your blog. I for one look forward to more of your posts.

You have done an awesome job and for me, just having John Chow supporting you was the killer move! I think you can call yourself a blogging idol 😉

Unlucky Suzanne. I was rooting for you but you did yourself and your readers proud.

I actually think the RSS gain you made is much more difficult than the winners because you went from 50 subscribers to 600. But it’s difficult to create a level playing field and all things considered, Daniel got it right and ran a great competition.

There’s always next time 🙂

Raghu December 2, 2008 at 8:46 pm

@Suzanne – It was fun last one month. I knew it will be tough fight till the end to win this. Congrats to you. I haven’t read any of your articles. I will read after this comment.

@Monty- There is nothing fishy about stats. I’m not sure where you got the numbers from. Unique visitors for Nov 2008 is 49,922 and page views is 203,000 (google analytics)
Regarding feedburner count – there is an issue with email subscribers being not counted. Add 1184 to current number displayed. ( http://groups.google.com/group/feedburner-statistics/browse_thread/thread/8112bf7709630f65#)
Comments – There are posts with 300+ comments in single article.

Yes, you did won Suzanne! Even if you are tied, you still won. Daniel voted for you and to me, it is a very heartwarming news. Just like he said, you had equal points as the other one.

So go ahead and rejoice! Be proud! Wear the crown and visit places! But I guess you need some rest, as I know how hard you worked to earn this title. Remember, this is not a beauty contest, (But if it was, you’re sole winner…lol!) this is a recognition contest and the fact that Daniel announce your name, I think this calls for a celebration.

Congrats from the bottom of my heart!

It doesn’t seem right to me. You both should have had to do some last minute blogging competition to decide the winner.

Thanks again to everyone for all of their kind words and for the support during the Blogging Idol contest. It was a lot of work … but well worth it. I learned so much and truthfully I enjoyed pushing myself as hard as I did. It was also a great way to teach my kids some valuable lessons about hard work and determination. Thanks again … and I will never forget the support you’ve all shown me. *huGs* to all … Suzanne
