Get Rid of Your J-O-B … (Video)

<—— A quick reminder to Retweet if you enjoy the post … Thanks!

So I took some time off from the blog during the holidays (still had to run my other businesses) and when I was ready to return … tragedy struck. My 12 year-old son, Nathan, crashed his dirt bike doing about 30 mph and broke his collar bone and both of his wrists (poor little guy). I already love working from home but when this happened it reconfirmed just how lucky I am to be able to truly be there for my family and to not have a boss to deal with.

If you are working a job and would like to work from home why don’t you make 2010 the year? What I’d suggest you do is to figure out exactly how much you need to make to replace your job. List out all of the expenses of working at your job (clothing, lunches, gas, etc.) and subtract that from your take home pay and see what you need to come up with. That way you’ll have a true picture of what that will take for you.

You can start out by supplementing your income and see what it will take to replace the job all together.

I took the plunge by purchasing an existing business (on eBay LOL) and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve had several people ask me what I’d charge to help them set up an online business from scratch and it’s got me thinking about doing some site flipping – which is where you set up an online business and then sell it (usually auction style) so stay tuned for any news related to that. If you’d be interested please leave a comment below and/or shoot me an email telling me what type of business you’d be interested in and let me know your budget … we’ll see what I can come up with OK?

Hope everyone is well and I’m glad to be back to work here on the blog. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Hi Mohamad ~ thanks for your well-wishes for Nathan … doctor has decided he does not need surgery so that’s a huge relief! Getting started is the biggest hurdle for those trying to start an online business … and yes, putting in the hard work is the next. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you ok? *SmiLes*

Wow Suz, real sorry to hear about the boy and I hope he’s OK.

I sent an email wondering if you were OK, no worries on a reply now that I know…it’s most likely buried deep anyway. lol

Hey Dennis ~ Yes, Nathan is doing a lot better and is on his way to a full recovery (if we can keep him off of the dirt bike for 8 more weeks LOL) … I did get your email and I’m sorry I haven’t replied. I think I got it while at Mardi Gras LOL … need I say more? Just kidding … Let’s hook up and reconnect. *huGs*

Hope Nathan is doing well.

I think the biggest problem with online marketing is to stay focused and not be jumping from this to that. Pick your project and go with it.

Glad to hear your son is okay! Personally I think that it is a very brave and corageous step starting your own business, whether it is at home or not. It definitely is a big decision, and is not for everyone. I think its important to think seriously about it, and think about whether you have the determination to see it through. You´re a very focused and strong person, and I commend you on having these traits – especially whilst looking after your poor son!! Good luck with the new business!

How is your son doing? I hope he is okay now! It’s times like this that you really appreciate working from home. I also work from home and I always have time to attend to the more important things in life. Some people view this in a negative way (that I’m slacking off / not doing anything) and some abuse it and ask me to do things like I don’t have work, but I’m really grateful for the internet for allowing this setup! Oh and great new layout, I’m loving the new design and the header picture!

Nathan is all healed and back on his bike (he had his 8 wk check up on a Thursday and was cleared to ride that Friday LOL). My husband and I both work from home and we have struggled with friends/family not understanding that we do “work” all day (and into the night). This is especially true when we travel and we feel we can get away more since we can work from our computers and even though we try to explain it … it is seen as rude that we get on our computers LOL … and we do see both sides for sure.

Thanks for the feedback on the new layout … I’m liking it too. I am still playing around with it and this theme has a ton of features so I’ll keep learning it slowly but surely. *SmiLes*

There is nothing worst from a parent’s perspective than a sick child. I hope all goes well for you and your son in the future

Wow – what a story. As a parent I know how hard it is when you child gets hurt, and, how hard it is to have to leave and go to work. You did a good thing!

Budgeting your time and maximizing your resources are two of the advantages of working online. You, as a working mom, you could spend more time to fulfill all the needs of your children. As they grow older, you will always be there to guide them.

Starting an online business definitely has its ups. For one, it allows you to get rid of that job you hate, spend more quality time with your family, finally buy that stuff you couldn’t afford in the past, and most importantly – be your own boss. However, before making that decision you must do due diligence first. As mentioned here, you are going to have to find what works for you and think about if that business could actually replace the income you’re getting from your J-O-B.
