Google Friend Connect ~ What Do You Think?

Google Friend Connect, in beta, is now available to webmasters. I don’t know a whole lot about it but as soon as I saw it had a “comment wall” I wanted to give it a try. I’ve been wanting to put up something just like this where my readers could communicate with me and with other readers without having to leave the message on a specific post … or without having to email me directly.
Of course you will still want to make comments on a specific post when your comment pertains to that topic and I still love getting emails from all of you … but this is just for brief questions or comments.
I’ll leave it on and see how it goes. Things I’ll be watching for are: (1) is anyone interested enough to actually use it, (2) are there so many that I can’t keep up with reading/replying to you, and (3) will some use it to junk up the blog with spam (now … I know none of you reading this would do that … but it could invite drive-by spammers that I’ll have to moderate and such).
If you do give this a try, either here or own your own site, be sure you fill out our profile page and put links (with anchor text) on your profile page to your websites/blogs.
So … what do you think of the concept? Is it something you’ll enjoy? Should I match the colors to the blog or leave the standard colors? Will you be adding it to your blog? Why or why not? Can’t wait to hear what you have to say … so please leave your comments below and maybe “join” our community and leave something on the “comment wall.” *SmiLes* Suzanne
P.S. Here’s Google’s YouTube video that explains Google Friend Connect
P.S.S. Turns out this is my 100th Post … Can’t wait to have another 100 up there for you!

Am I gonna get some prize for always being the 1st one to comment on your posts?

Anyways, Thanks for sharing.. Gonna try this out now

Hi Suzanne -
Been awhile since I have been around!! Congrats on ALL your achievments over the past couple weeks… Blogging Idol - Cool!!
I am impartial about Google adding this friend feed thingamajig, I truly think they already control ENOUGH (meant to be read as TOO much) of the web, and this is just an effort to reach into the twitter success (IMHO)
I can already see them (Google) now having just another way of tracking EVERY step we make as a member of the network, monitoring more of the details of the sites we visit, and finding ways to toss ads into the faces of those who do use it!
Maybe I’m just down a bit on Google, but if this were the US Govt, or IRS, wanting us to share every step we take… there is no way many of us would allow it!

I was thinking about adding Google Friend connect to my blog. I like the fact that it turns your blog into a community but didn’t like the signing in part. Many users will shy away when they see the sign in part. Will watch for a follow-up.

Hi Suzanne
100 already, I have not been with you all that time, however I think congrats are in order.
I will try the Google friend connect, had not heard of it till your blog, I like Google, use it every day.
hi Suzanne,
I like google (use their search and mail regularly) but everytime I hear of something new, I have doubts. Just how big are they going to get? Anyway, with this service, I’ll let others get their feet wet first.
Congrats on the big 100. I’ve only got about 80 to go to catch up. Slow down, won’t you! Just kidding…

@ monty ~ hey … never know on a prize … I do plan on doing some random prizes and see how it goes rewarding faithful readers and participants and see how that goes vs “task” oriented contests … I do appreciate it. So did you have to “sign up” for something to join the group? Or if you already have a google account did it just let you “click” and join? I’d love to hear some feedback on this and thanks for playing along while we all learn about this tool.
@ mark ~ thanks for your kudos … it was a crazy month! but well worth it for sure. I too am so/so about google these days … so we’ll see how the tool pans out … just wanted to see if we could create a sense of “community” and get to know more about each other … I’m open to all ideas and alternatives. Great hearing from you and thank you for you valuable feedback!
@ cash2blog ~ if you add it to your blog let me know so I can join

@ steve ~ yes, google seems to be on people’s nerves these days … as i’ve said i am open to any and all feedback and suggestions … was hoping it would encourage all of us to network together and get to know one another. guess we’ll see … and just keep on writing … it goes pretty fast once you’re on track.
I just clicked to join(since I was already logged into my Gmail account)
I’m sure this widget is gonna get alot of response.. specially from blogs!

Looks all right, but with so many people using both Mybloglog and Blogcatalog widgets, don’t know how much room there’s going to be to fit it. I’m sticking with Mybloglog for now. Google shouldn’t corner the market on everything.
