How Do You Get Your Sites / Pages Indexed in Google?

by on March 24, 2010

I put up a lot of sites and blogs for my businesses and I’ve never had a problem getting a site indexed with Google very quickly – until now. I put up a blog / site last week and it’s still not indexed … so I thought I’d share what I usually use and put it out there to my readers too to see what all of you do to get your sites indexed quickly.

I usually don’t need to do anything more than use a social bookmarking site and I usually use Mister Wong first and sometimes I use a few more as well.

I will also sometimes add a link from one of my other existing sites that I know gets spidered often.

I might add some links back from a Squidoo lense … use some article marketing … use my 30 Minute Backlinks method … submit the site to some directories … but truthfully I don’t usually need to do more than add to Mister Wong to get indexed and I use the other methods for more backlinks.

The only thing I can think of that I haven’t done so far is add a site map to the blog so that’s my next step.

I’m waiting a day or two because Austin (my 14 year old son) once read in an eBook to go to the first sample post (the Hello World post that comes standard on WordPress) and edit it to say the word “Google” with a link to Google.com. Hmmm … not sure about this one but he’s asked me to wait a day or two to see if it works or not. LOL

So … what do you do to get your site indexed? How long does it usually take? Share any ideas you have so we can all learn from each other OK? *SmiLes* Suzanne

Hi Suzanne! Firstly I like the new look around here – good stuff. Of course pinging your blog (assuming it is in Wordpress) can often be enough to get it indexed.

However typically I also apply the following methods:

1) Use one fo the Wordpress plugins to create and submit an xml sitemap to Google.

2) Submot one or two articles to Ezine Articles

This normally does it. Otherwise, a sneaky trick is to get your blog accepted into Technorati which is easy, and is viewed as an authority site by Google. Then *link* to a few other top blogs in your niche. Technoriati will quickly pick up these links because they track such things and I have known a site to get indexed on hours rather than days without this method.

Using just pinging, a sitemap and an article submission I normally reckon on around a week for indexing in Google.

After this time I use my Technorati trick if it still isn’t showing up.

Remember though that the domain could have been blacklisted in the past which may be causing you problems. Have you looked at it in Archive.org to see if the domain has been owned in the past?

Lastly remember you can sign up to Google Webmaster Central (free) and ask them if there is a problem with your site and/or see any problems Google is having indexing your site.

Hi Richard ~ Thanks for all of the great advice …Yes, it’s a WP blog … I’m submitting my xml sitemap as we speak (sorry Austin LOL). Then today I’ll try to get some articles ready for ezine and add my ping list to the blog admin. I don’t usually submit all of my sites to Technorati but in this case it sure couldn’t hurt. The domain … hmmm … that would be a total bummer if that were the case so I’ll definitely check that too! Thanks again … and be sure you let me know when you officially launch your site ;) *huGs*

It’s all about links. They will determine how often and how deep the search engines will go.

Back when social media and real time information wasn’t that high up on the engines agenda it took weeks to get your site indexed, so 7 days is not that bad.

Use social media sites (twitter and the like), tumblr or posterous commenting and any other “time sensitive” website / article to speed up the process. Commenting on more established blogs that get spidered often also helps.

Links are very important, but to become often spidered you need to have a lot of users. thats my opinion. the more often your site is clicked and watched the more often you will get spidered.
so you need to spread links on social bookmarks, press portals etc.

I often get to index all sites that I design for my clients within 24 hours itself. It’s either by submitting it to a social bkm or I simply link to it temporarily from one of my sites.

Never got problem to get indexed, but to train Google bot to come regularly and scan as soon as you publish new things on the new site is what is more difficult.

For example my new blog (check the link in my username for this comment) is only about 10 days old. It is already indexed but the rate at which Google bot crawl it is not yet satisfactory. Eg my last post (of 1 day) itself is not yet indexed.

Coming to what your son mentioned, I’ll say he is a little genius. :P In fact I don’t know how this works, but whenever a post in my main blog (a Mauritius news based blog) I link to Google or any google sub-sites, the post get index faster but also gets a better ranking.

At times I wonder if the Google Bot love that we praise it lol.

Oh this is sooo frustrating! I’ve checked and checked and on my computer it still shows that my site is not indexed yet. But, Austin went to his dad’s house yesterday and there it shows it indexed and doing very well in the serps. *sigh* If it is indexed I won’t really know what worked to get it there (coincidence, Austin’s idea, xml site map …) Meanwhile, I registered another domain and rebuilt the site LOL (so impatient) so we’ll see what happens there ;)

I’ll keep you posted for those who are interested … and I hope others will continue to post their tips and ideas on getting pages/sites indexed. *SmiLes*

In my opinion links are the most important thing to become a site indexed. that means outbound and! inbound links to the deep of a site. In compare with good content it shouldn´t be a problem to get indexed.

Reply

Suzanne April 1, 2010 at 7:38 am

Yes, I agree … links are very important. It’s a site I use to get listed for local search terms and I don’t have much on the blog yet (I use a static front page – a “Squeeze” page) … it is not fully indexed but I’ve never had it (a) take so long and (b) get indexed for some people’s search but not for others (some people could find it in the serps and some could not – myself included) … always something new … I still don’t have any idea what happened on this one … maybe someone who reads this will understand it and share it with us. *SmiLes*

Great tips! A completely new website with a new host and domain normally would never get indexed, so these are good tips to get Google’s attention to your site. I’ve been playing around with wordpress a little and I’ve noticed that if you use their free blogging service, the blog usually gets indexed within a day. Only problem is it’s not really your blog (they can delete it anytime they want).

I’m biased to Google in that I don’t really care about the other SEs. Yeah I know that’s bad SEO. Anyway add my new site to Webmaster Tools and Analytics. That’s a sure way to get it indexed fast with Google. Sitemap should really help in getting those deeper links/pages indexed. =)

All fixed now but I still have no idea what happened there … I’m hoping someone will read this and let me know what’s up?! LOL

For a new blog, usually I’ll upload all the plugins that I need especially Google Sitemap plugin, then submit to Google Webmaster Tool. Then I’ll add a link from my other blogs, then I’ll start leaving comment on blogs by using the URL, of course no spammy comment or else you’ll get banned.

Other than these, I didn’t do anything extra. I did an experience for one of my new blogs, it got indexed in 2 days after following the steps as I listed above. So, it’s considered fast right?

Regarding the adding Google link, I’ve never heard about that, may want to try for the next new blog. :)

Regards,
Lee

I don’t generally do much of anything either and have always been indexed in a day or so. The last site I created for myself was in late November. Wonder if something new is going on?

Generally, I take the site live and then have the posts sent to my Twitter and FaceBook accounts. Sometimes I’ll add a link from an existing site. That’s about it.

Let us know about your son’s tip. I doubt that would make a difference, but you never know if that trackback will trigger something!

Hi Alison ~ This one has stumped me! Unfortunately I grew impatient and tried several things at once … so I’ll never really know what helped (if anything). I tried Austin’s idea to appeal to Google … and about 24 hours later I added the site map plugin and submitted the site map. I was indexed shortly after that … so I’ll never know if it was one of those things … or coincidence. LOL … If someone who knows tells me more I’ll post it for all to learn from. *SmiLes*

With my wordpress blogs i usually add the google xml sitemap. I also manually submit to google, bing and yahoo although some say this is a bad idea it hasn’t bothered me.

Then I go to scrubb the webb and submit to the 9 free directories

Then I hit the blog with onlywire.

The first couple of websites I built when I started in IM took quite some time to get indexed… but now, almost 1.5 years in… I can usually get a website indexed in 48 hours at the most.

What I do is focus on excellent SEO from the beginning, including configuring my wordpress settings just so.

Sometimes I use auto-blogging plugins, (google loves original content, but it’s crazy over re purposed stuff at the moment too, excellent spider food)

But generally, I block the search engines til I am completely done with my site. Then I add a large ping list, unblock the search engines, build a sitemap using a plguin, and amplify the new site… which sends it to several places.

Then lastly I run it through IsMySiteIndexed, and boom, the robots come feeding, and I get indexed.

I diverged from this method for a while and noticed it was taking a while to get indexed again. The last 5 sites I built, I did this, and they all got indexed in 24 hours.

Hi! I think I can give a very useful tip here:

1. Bookmark the site to Mr. Wong, Jumptags, etc, at least three do follow social bookmarking sites.
2. Create a related Squidoo lens. Add an “Add your RSS” module which features your site’s blog posts, and add a link to the site. Make the tags very common, like, “music” or “people”, something like that, make sure you have at least ten tags. This way, the lens gets indexed in a day.

Wait for a day. Check if it is already indexed. :)

The best way to get your web page indexed fast is to create a blogger blog and put all the links you want to get indexed in the body post and publish post, within seconds your web pages will get indexed(provided they do not contain duplicate content).
