Well … I finally did it! I changed my Twitter User Name and for some reason I was really stressed out about it. I’ve used wahmsuzanne (work at home mom Suzanne) for many years on forums and such so when I signed up for Twitter I used it out of habit.
I finally understand the importance of “personal branding” so I wanted to get @suzannefranco for Twitter. I did some searching and I couldn’t find a definitive answer to the question of how to change user names without any problems. I guess somewhere along the line I used my Gmail address to “reserve” @suzannefranco so when I went to switch one night it said it was already taken (Uhhhh …. Duh! LOL). So … now I have thousands of followers on @wahmsuzanne and I want to switch to @suzannefranco.
I thought I’d heard that there was a cooling off period if you let your user name go so I didn’t want to just cancel the @suzannefranco. I finally emailed Twitter. Their response was to change the @suzannefranco to something else, log out and log back into @wahmsuzanne, and then change it to @suzannefranco (you do this by clicking on “Settings”). So … I’ve done so and so far so good. Now … just in case there is some confusion at first I went back and changed the “old” @suzannefranco to @wahmsuzanne. OK … you can shoot me now!
If someone has me saved as @wahmsuzanne or I have a link out there somewhere I will still be notified and I can let the person know about my new user name.
So … if we’re not already following each other on Twitter let’s do so ok?

P.S. This would work best if you put the entire URL in the comments so it’s clickable i.e. http://www.twitter.com/suzannefranco

When I canceled my account I read the rules very carefully, more then once lol….they are pretty strict about reusing the same name.

Dennis ~ Are you saying that you cannot get your user name back if you quit/leave Twitter? Yikes! LOL
You have to remove it in a certain manner, there is a whole help section on it. I just hope I did it right. LOL

Hi Suzanne! I’ve tried to change once how Twitter shows my name, like “Hey there! is using Twitter” but no success so far. I thought if you changed your name, not the username, that would change to. Any ideas how to do this?

Oh it should be, “Hey there! YOUR_NAME_HERE is using Twitter.” It’s the first thing you see up there ( http://twitter.com/NAME ), but you’re not logged in. I guess that’s how other people see it on their side too. Then below it your twitter username again, followed by your tweets. I want it to show the name, instead of username. Can’t seem to do this.
