Macs vs PCs … Which Do You Use and Why? Free Macbook Pro!

Macs vs PCs … Which Do You Use and Why?

Macs versus PCs … which do you use and why? So why am I asking? Because one of my new online friends is holding a killer contest … well two actually … where he’s giving away a couple of Macbook Pros! If you don’t know it yet … I’m a very lucky lady so I’m thinking I stand a pretty good chance at winning (*wink* at least) one of  these things. Well, that got me thinking … if I won a Macbook Pro in this contest would I keep it, sell it, or give it as a gift?

I’ve never owned a Mac before, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever even laid eyes on one much less played around with one. I’m a PC user just because … well … I don’t know why actually. Without doing a bunch of research I’ve always heard that Macs are more expensive but much easier to use. I’ve also heard that there are instances where you can’t use certain software so that’s a bummer. I’ve seen people asking on forums, “Is there a version I can use with a Mac?” So that’s always turned me off.

So now I ask … which do you use and why? Have you ever owned a Mac or are you strictly a PC user? Have you ever switched from one to the other? If so, how did that go? Either way how would you like to win a Macbook Pro?

To get your shot at winning go check out these two separate contests (on the same site) and good luck (beating me that is LOL).

The first one is going to be based on RSS subscribers. It’s totally easy to enter – just subscribe to D’s RSS feed via email and then leave a comment stating you’ve done so. The drawing will not happen until there are 500 RSS subscribers so it’s in everybody’s best interest to help spread the word. Fair enough right?

The second contest requires you to make a 200 word blog post about D’s blog and about the contest and then leave a comment that you’ve done so. No specific anchor text is required but he’s asking for at least two links to the contest post (pretty fair too huh?). The drawing will take place on December 18, 2008 so long as there are at least 20 participants so, again, spread the word and let’s make sure this thing goes off.

Now, if you’ve noticed I refer to this guy as “D” … that’s because he won the lottery and he hides his identity for obvious reasons! I’m happy for him and envious too … I need to start buying myself some lottery tickets (remember I’m very lucky)! He’s decided to blog about his life as a multi-millionaire lottery winner and I guess we can all live vicariously. He seems like a pretty good guy – does some random acts of kindness and all. Now with that said, that does NOT mean to go asking this guy for money or for help or anything like that … in fact I think that would be just plain rude and obnoxious.

Leave your comment below about the questions I’ve asked about the Macintosh versus the PC and let me know if you’re entering one or both of D’s contests. *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. I did a quick video showing some very basic keyword research I did for this post. I want to start getting in the habit of videoing as many quick tips as I can so let me know if this is helpful or not. Keep in mind I’m VERY (brand spanking) new at using Camtasia Studios software (screen capture) so please bare with me while I get better at using the screen capture. You might want to take some Dramamine before you watch! LOL

Here’s a link to the keyword tool I used: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

P.S.S. Let us hear from you … Will you join one or both of D’s contests? Did you enjoy the quick video on keyword research? Should I do more of them while I work each day? And … let me hear your thoughts … Macs vs PCs

My ex-wife is a graphic designer and so she is a hardcore mac user. I on the other hand am a hardcore pc user. When we were together she had gotten an imac (one of the first generations) and I added some memory to it. That was the last time I ever try to work on a mac again. Something as simple as adding memory was a PITA! I tried to network my PCs and her imac together, that too was a PITA. All the macs I have seen come with a one button mouse, yea only 1!! I need at least 2 buttons an a wheel lol.

  7. Hi Suzanne
I think most people are either Mac or PC, with a few, very few I think going either way. I think thats a pity really, because maybe you need some help and your “tame” expert is hardcore the other. But thanks for the info on the contest.

I’m a PC gal all the way.

My now-ex-for-a-reason wanted to go online, which the ancient computer wouldn’t do. I told him if he bought a PC, I’d buy a bunch of software, but if he bought a Mac, he was on his own. To spite me, he bought a Mac. On the weekend, we went to a top-notch software store; he had a shopping list. LMAO, *none* of the programs he wanted was available for Mac. I’d already heard that the Mac version of the software I used was a poor imitation of the PC version, so I certainly wasn’t going to use his computer to run a crappy imitation of the program that ran just fine on the older computer.

The once or twice that I needed to use his computer to send an e-mail, I hated it. Although it was newer than mine, it was slower, clunkier, and a general PITA to use. And motivated me to upgrade from DOS to Windows so I could do e-mail from my computer instead of having to mess with his.

Since then, a non-computer-literate neighbor has a couple of times asked me to un-screw-up her computer, which turns out to be a Mac, but for the longest time, she didn’t get it that knowing everything about Windows does not mean I know anything about Mac. I don’t like when I have to deal with her computer, either. (Fortunately, one night when she came over needing help, I had a Mac Whiz visiting, so now she calls him.)

I’m a former PC turned Mac user. My relationship with my PC was an abusive one: he frequently inflicted the silent treatment (freezing up), took too long to answer questions or do what I asked (slow, slow slow), and even occasionally cheated on me and caught diseases (viruses). On more than a few occasions he just up and left town, and took all of my stuff with him (so I lost all my files). He was a really bad man. I’m so glad we’re splitzo. If he ever tries to insert himself back into my life, I will drive him to a bridge, stick him in a sack with some rocks, and toss him over.

I had a relationship with at least 5 different PCs before I finally had the courage to date a Mac. Oh, I wasn’t sorry for switching teams. My Mac is the perfect gentleman. He’s fast. He always does as he’s told. He never cheats on me. He doesn’t get sick. He dotes on me (great customer service!!). I can’t say enough.

And he’s great in bed. (Don’t know what that relates to, but thought I’d put it out there).

Once you’ve had an Apple, you’ll never feel satisfied with a PC ever again.

    Joking aside, the selling points:

    * Out of this world tech support and customer service. They don’t talk down to you, they work with you until your problem is solved, they do back flips to make you happy, and they never blame the problem on you or another component that’s attached to your computer.

    * The apple store. They will train you. You can take your computer there, drop it off, and they will transfer all of your files, and they will generally treat you like a princess. The only downside is that they haven’t yet decided to add a martini bar.

    * It talks to other Apple products (iPhone iPod) in such a seamless way it’s unbelievable.

I occasionally use my old PC (gave it to my husband), and every time I’m on there I think, “God I hate this computer.” I never think that with the Mac.

I wrote an essay/blog about my experience with my Mac if anyone is interested in reading more: http://www.projecthappilyeverafter.com/2008/10/im-living-happily-ever-after-with-my-computer/

great topic. as an ex creative director, I have both. I am actually on my mac now, although it is an older one, a powerbook g4, haven’t updated it though and really want to as I have a renewed interest in blogging and creating websites. I primarily work on my pc – not really by choice – it is really restricting though i think. the graphics programs are much better on a mac, as it is the preferred platform by graphic designers.

    Hi Suzanne,

I am new to this site so I have a bit of reading to catch up on.

To answer your question, if I could go Mac tomorrow I would. I want to upgrade my PC, but I have heard so many bad things about Vista I don’t know what to do. If i go down the Mac road alot of my software won’t work. And there is the problem.

On a side note – I was just wondering who or what your make money online business model is based on?

It looks like many of you have entered the awesome contest and as much as I would LOVE to win … I also wish all of you luck too. Fun huh? We’ll see what happens on the 18th! *SmiLes* Suzanne

Right Mac users are of two sorts!

    1. Dumb fashion types that like the look of it on their desk and are too thick to even use it.
    2. Creative types who feel the need for a mac yet there is not real proff a like for like is that much better

PC Users, well, they are all sorts of people as PC’s come in all shapes and sizes and all sorts of spec. They can be cheap or costly , powerful or week.

“…But PCs always crash and macs NEVER do!” this is utter rubbish!

People who think PCs are bad should consider that Bill Gates mad a GUI that has changed all our lives and if someone is too dumb to use a PC properly cos they brought some package from PC World then stuff them. You would never get angry at anyone who crashes a car as it is not Fords fault is the drunk fool behind the wheel.

The second I went from a PC to a Mac, things got soooooo much easier! It was faster to move around and if a program ever froze, I could easily just restart that program as opposed to having to restart the whole computer (which was pretty cool).

However, there were quite a few programs that I couldn’t run on a mac so I had to revert to my pc. That was ok with me though, I didn’t mind much. Later I downloaded parallels which allows me to run a pc on the mac tho and I could switch between both the pc and the mac.

Would I recommend a mac? Most definitely!

I am a certified PC technician, and I have owned and used both Mac and PC, and using DOS, Win9x, and OS 7-X. I am expert in both OS.I set up my G4 to be my media center, but took it apart because it was too difficult to teach my wife how to swap files and switch between the two computers. MacOS doesn’t crash? I have crashed it many times. I’ve repaired my share of towers and notebooks, too. I agree about the one-button mouse! And face it, most of the software and games are on the PC. Now Mac is great for my dad, who is a PC dummy and will only touch a Mac (which he can still screw up by accident).

I’m a gamer from way back, and originally an Amiga fanatic. I was like Mac fanatics are these days. Mac fanatics come across as if they are better than PC users as if they have special dispensation from the pope, because they have the better hardware (and OS). But back then, when Mac was B&W and PC was 4 colors with beeps, Amiga had 4096 colors and stereo sound. Nowadays, with minute variations, Mac and PC are pretty much even re: hardware and OS. However, I do drool over that 8-core Xeon Powermac! But I reel my tongue in every time I read the price tag!

My Mac is in storage now and I only use my PC anymore. But I wouldn’t turn down a free Macbook!

I’m also a PC user, played a few times with a mac, didn’t notice any advantages; both the interface design and the product design doesn’t attract me. And where I live, Macs are more expensive, that’s another reason to be a PC user. If I was to pick another OS I’d choose linux instead.
