Promoting Your Blog Offline – T-shirts and Business Cards

Today I was IMing (instant messaging) with a friend of mine on Facebook and I mentioned that I was wearing my “Blogging Idol Shirt” and he said, “Where did you get it?” I told him I made it and I wear it proudly. Thanks again to all of you who helped me earn that title. I took this self-portrait with my Blackberry while we were chatting and sent it directly to Facebook … how easy that was.

Well, what I was telling him was how much attention I get while I’m wearing that shirt i made @Print My Polo Shirts … people asking me what’s Blogging Idol … and it’s a perfect opener for telling them what I do online. The problem is that I don’t carry any business cards so once I explain what I do … it’s difficult to invite them to my blog …because I’m not prepared. I’m going to be putting in my order for my FREE business cards through Vista Print and you should too. You can pay a few bucks more to upgrade and such … and they’ll try to “upsell” and to sell you a bunch of add-on products but their offer for their free cards is great!

So … two lessons here … one see if you can come up with a shirt (or something wearable) that will lead to conversation about your blog … and then be prepared with business cards!

Get Your FREE Business Cards!

Do you have anything you carry or wear in public that is a conversation starter for your business? Do you carry business cards? Have you ever tried Vista Print’s free card offer? Are you good about inviting others to view your blog? Let’s share some ideas about what works OK? *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. A huGe thanks to my urban development consultants and friend Mark McClinton for designing my cards .. i’ll post them once they’re done – he’s awesome and very reasonable so go to his site and contact him for a quote

P.S. Would you like some help making money online? Did you know that sites like Amazon and eBay will pay you to help them sell items that are listed for sale on their site? I can show you how I do it k? Click the banner below or contact me here for more info!

I have had business cards with my blog address for a couple of years. I have interviewed people at businesses–restaurants, stores, bakeries, etc., even some individuals, in order to write blog posts about them. People are happy to know that I want to get the correct information about them. After I started handing the person a business card with my name and blog address on it, I have never been turned down for a short interview. They are always smiling and happy to be getting some free press. Since I am also a freelance writer for pay, I use the same business cards for that, too. It never hurts to let a prospective subject have a way to see how you write. And , I have gained some readers by doing this.

@ karen ~ I guess this is the first time I’ve checked out your blog! LOL … fun … are you following along with BootCamp? Have you been on the forum yet? Let me know if you need any help with anything … and thanks for this great “comment” … sometimes the comments are as helpful (or even more sometimes LOL) than the post itself … thanks! *huGs* Suzanne

One of the first things I did was get some business cards from Vista Print for my blog. I will never be caught out without my identity! Now, I’ve just got to come up with my t-shirt line!

Awesome site and I’ll definitely be back!

@ “t” … thanks for coming by! so did you do the “free” cards … or did you upgrade? do tell! LOL … i want to hear what you did and how they came out … did you design them or did you hire someone to do that? i guess that’s why i keep putting it off … i’m not creative like that at all … so i need to get someone to get them designed and ready for me 😉 hope to hear how it went. *SmiLes* S

Great job on the T-shirt . Zazzle it and make money. I three sets of business cards and will not leave anywhere without them.

For one of my blogs, I have MS and HS kids wearing t-shirts. Wearing them yourself and having others wear your brand does amazing things to your blog or ecommerce. 🙂

It is funny, I have been thinking about some cards for a couple of weeks, probably would have sorted it by now but I am halfway through moving house.
Really good idea, if I approach someone about taking their photo or photographing them about their work, or their business a card would be quite a simple intro/explanation and then they maybe discuss it with other people later.
I have used Vistaprint before and like you would recomment them, I got the “free” ones and they were fine.

hi Suzanne,
Great shirt! I’m sure it’s a conversation starter. BTW, are those rhinestones on it, and did you use a bedazzler? to put them on? 🙂
Thanks for the link for the free business cards… can’t beat free. ~ Steve, the trade show displays guru

Hey, great suggestion there. But the trouble is no many people outside your group really notice what you are wearing especially when it comes to TShirts..The business cards makes it looks classy and that you are well prepared though!!! Great tips anywayz..Thanx,

First of all you are looking great in this T shirt. Young and energetic as well. But where is the web address of your website at there.

Yeah many people and webmaster are using this kind of strategy and this one is working fine as well.

Suzanne February 8, 2009 at 3:29 pm

well … i’m about to do another shirt so thanks for the suggestions (will be adding my domain to the lower part of the shirt and i’ll post back with it) … yes, to rhinestones – not bedazzler! lol … i’m so excited to be getting my cards ready … a huge thanks to mark mcClinton for designing my cards .. i’ll post them once they’re done – he’s awesome and very reasonable so go to his site and contact him for a quote *SmiLes* Suzanne

Your teeshirt is great, really creative! Indeed, showing its idendity is the first step towards making any business. Introducing oneself in a funny way is a way more efficient, since people will remind it, which is great!

Cheers, Olivia!!

Just came across your post. I found it informative for me and I’m sure many others. I did also have small trouble subscribing to the blog but figured it out; I’m still a 2-finger typist 🙂 . Thank you and keep your blogging spirit going strong.

Yes, it’s a great way for marketing your blog, but only if you are an outgoing person and if you meet many people. Otherwise, if you are only sitting on the sofa, no one will ask for your business card 😀

I need to do one of those 30-day drawing chgnaelles. I’ve been neglecting my sketchbooks for far too long. You guys are too cute, I’ve been a follower of your blog for a while and it’s great to see you and your man still so invested and in love with one another. Happy holidays!Liz
