Ever had “one of those days”? Well, that was yesterday for me LOL
I live in a very small town that’s located about 15-20 minutes north of San Antonio and when I started working with local businesses I put some serious thought into where to focus my energy … here in my local area or further into San Antonio.
I’ve done some cold calling here locally and I’ve had some decent results so far but I’ve also decided to do some marketing in San Antonio. There’s a business association in the north side of town that meets about once a month for a lunch meeting with guest speakers but they also do an event called “Speed Networking” a couple of times a year … and last night was one of them. There are about 150 people, you have a number, a chart, you move every so often and introduce your business to all other attendees throughout the night – pretty cool huh?
I decided about a week ago that I was going to go to this event and see if I could make some good contacts and gain some new clients.
A while back I had Chrissy design me some business cards and although I’d been printing them out on my computer I decided it was time to order them from a printer so they’d look more professional (and so I wouldn’t burn through my toner cartridge). I also got the idea to have a shirt made up that says, “My Business is #1 on Google … Is Yours?” I put some thought into an “offer” for potential clients and I decided to print up some coupons on cardstock offering a free one hour consultation to discuss online marketing, SEO, social media … whatever they’d like to discuss about their business during that hour (I limited this to the first 25 people who took me up on it and booked an appointment).
The “Bad”
So … it’s the day of the event … I finish my workout … I call to let the lady know I’m on my way to pick up my shirt – not ready yet. *sigh* OK … I’ll go home and eat first. I leave and go print and cut the coupons – no issues there. I go pick up my shirt but I happen to be on the phone so I quickly look at the shirt and pay her and leave. I stop in to see an existing client and we visit for a while. OK … time to go home and get ready. I very proudly pull out my new shirt to show Ken and the kids when my daughter looks up and says, “Mommy, I don’t think something is spelled right?!” Huh? What? Very funny! Yea right! I put the shirt down … Oh sh#%! What the???!
Well … as you can see she ran the words “business” and “is” together so it looked like some kind of misspelling. Hardly the attention I wanted to get or be remembered for right? LOL. OK … I’m upset but not the end of the world.
Hmmm … More “Bad”
Come to think of it … Did UPS deliver my business cards yet? What no cards either?!” *sigh*
Have you had one of these moments? You know … the kind where you feel like everything that can go wrong is going wrong? OK Suzanne … pull yourself together!
Ken’s reassuring me that I’ll do great despite these hurdles *sigh* (very sweet of him – love that guy).
I get showered and ready, find something else to wear and gather my coupons. Ken says he has kids and dinner handled so I run out the door a bit frazzled but back on track for a great evening.
Here Comes the Ugly! LOL
Well, as I’m flying down the highway telling myself how great tonight is going to be … meeting a lot of wonderful business people in town and reminding myself how much I miss interacting with real live people LOL … my radar detector starts screaming at me! Oh sh#%! You’ve got to be kidding me! There he is … on the other side of the highway going the other direction … oh please … just this once … give me a break … Well crap! There in my rear view comes the unmistakable colorful reminder that I’m driving through the “gauntlet” (the nickname for the town I was passing through because it’s well known for a high number of speeding tickets and, yes, I know better than to speed there LOL). I get my driver’s license out and as he approaches I’m sarcastically saying to myself, “Miss … is there an emergency I need to be aware of?” (They’re required to ask you that here in Texas). Hmmm … I’m reciting in my head, “No, dude … I’m late for an important business networking meeting and absolutely nothing has gone right today! Could you please give me a break?!” Uhhh … feeling fairly certain that wouldn’t go over too well … I hand over my driver’s license and smile, “No sir … no emergency.”
Now I have a decision to make … I’ll be a few minutes late … I’ve never been to an event with these people before (remember they’re expecting 150 attendees). Will I make a fool of myself? A bad first impression? I’ve teared up a bit … have I run my makeup everywhere? Screw it … I should just go home … nothing has gone right today. Clearly this wasn’t meant to be. But … how would I face my kids? I don’t let them “quit”!!! What will my husband think? Say? Is that really the soft, weak, self-defeating person I strive to be? No … Suzanne … pull it together and get back on the road (drive the speed limit) and walk in with a smile on your face and have the great night you deserve (Yes, lots of self talk yesterday LOL).
Finally … The “Good”
Well, guess what? I got there in plenty of time … met a ton of really neat people. Had a wonderful dinner (I even made very healthy choices – despite my mood LOL) and I expect to get some new clients from the event. In fact, I couldn’t even sleep last night. I stayed up late running keywords through my tools, checking rank for some of the potential new clients … I was happy and totally glad I followed through (despite feeling the world was just totally against me LOL).
Thanks for letting me vent … and if you’ve read this far … you must be a true friend (or bored LOL).
And, yes, I’ll keep you posted on how I make out with gaining new clients. *SmiLes* Suzanne
So … you know I’m going to ask … ever had “one of those days”? Did it work out fine in the end? Do you find that you let hurdles keep you from being successful in your business? What does your self-talk sound like? If you hear it getting negative … are you able to turn it around before you end up defeated? What do you think of the marketing materials I used (or even the ones I wasn’t able to use LOL)?

I can not believe the shirt…would have induced a panic…then no cards…OMG!
I have so had those days, I too just try to move through them one step at a time! 9 out of 10 times it turns around and ends of being a really decent day! I am glad it worked out on the “good” side BUT holy crap!

The shirt … sad! The cards? I was even more upset! Thanks for ALL of your hard work Chrissy (<– she does all of my design work and she’s awesome!) I am now so proud to give out my cards and I have some creative ideas to get the shirt “fixed” LOL LOL *huGs*

WOW that was quite the day for you! I have had those days and I just keep going like you do. Well, I usually exercise to get the frustrations out ha ha So glad to hear it all turned out but I still can’t get over the shirt. Some people just don’t pay attention.

Hey Angie ~ Yes, exercise really helps me when I’m frustrated too! On the shirt I know I asked her to do it last minute and of course I’m mad at myself for not looking at it more closely when I went to pick it up *sigh*
best of luck for your business. and the idea of marketing using T shirt is ok its not very bad and not so good……..

One day?? Welcome to my LIFE! lol.
I woulda gone to jail. It’s quite doubtful I would have been able to avoid answering, “… is there an emergency I need to be aware of?” in my own unique fashion.
I’ll have to chat with Chrissy. I don’t think even Vista Print does double sided…l love the shirt idea too – not the shirt, but the idea.
Kidding.
.-= Dennis Edell | Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..WTH? To Say I’m Perplexed Would be an Understatement to Say the Least =-.
LOL … Yea, it’s hard when you get pulled over to not be VERY upset! LOL I was just thinking … I’ve heard they are a no-tolerance city and won’t issue warnings so I just wanted to get out of there fast.
Cards – Chrissy designed the cards and then went into my Vista Print account for me to make sure the sizes and file types and all that jazz were good to go. I paid for glossy cards and I like the cards but wish they were a little thicker honestly … but I still do like them.
The shirt … well … what’s to say on that one! LOL They are supposed to do one for me on a black shirt of mine … in rhinestones … so they better move those letters apart!!! LOL *huGs*

At least your day ended well
I’ve read somewhere before, that we only have 10% control of what happens with our lives, whereas the 90% left depends on how we react on everything that life offers us, whether it’s crappy or happy. I guess you’ve just reacted appropriately, and that’s why the universe rewarded you with a great closure for that remarkable day
By the way suzanne, great shirt *evil grin*
Regards,
Jason Acidre
I’ve never heard that about the 10/90 % … I do try to keep a very positive attitude and sometimes it’s challenged! LOL and thanks for the *evil grin* makes me laugh LOL
haha,the T-shirt is lovely!
LOL funny huh? What can ya do!
That shirt caught my attention big time!
Poor Suzanne! It sounds like you had a nightmare day from start to finish – but I’m glad it ended up with ‘The good’!

Hey Jen ~ Thanks! *huGs*
One of those days, eh? I get this a lot. I try to control my temper when not everything is going right but sometimes its just hard and I end up getting pissed. But I agree with the poster above. If I can control how I react things wont go so bad especially at the end of the day, you don’t want to go home in a bad mood.

I need a T-shirt “My business is the worst on Google. Is yours?”)
ROTFLMAO!!! What’s the deal with Google? Do you need any help? Let me know k? *huGs*
That’s the way to go, stay strong and focused. To many times we let situations derail our good intentions. I can’t tell you how many times I have had a Good, Bad and Ugly day. The great thing about those days are there is always tomorrow.

My husband has waaaay more of these days than I do and I’m usually the one there telling him, “honey it will be ok in the end” … and I know I need to give myself the same advice … but once you’re in the middle of all the “crap” … it’s much harder to do LOL
Hahahahaha….
sorry for laughing on your bad days but reading it sound funny for me and thanks for the laughter. But keep on moving even you have a bad day is certainly something that not everyone can do. Keep on posting great article like this. I might be back again next time. retweet this post.

WE all have bad days, and venting on a blog is a good way not to beat anybody!
LOL … yes, blogging/venting is probably better than beating people … I’m sure my husband and 5 kids would agree too! LOL Never want to take my bad day out on them
I’m impressed that you do cold calling. That’s not the easiest thing in the world to do. Keep up the hard work!
Hahaha. Reminds of sites that I have seen where people incorrectly write stuff on people’s birthday cakes.
I’ve seen some really funny cake ones … here’s one:

LOL
LOL! That was really funny. anyways thanks for the post. i kinda like the shirt!
take care
haha. Is it just coincidence? I also experience that, the thing is different place at different time. Its funny to know people who have same experience as me. The only thing is to learn from our experience. God bless!
An all this in one day, huh?
P.S: nice shirt..

haha nice blog, this blog gives smiles and laughters to people. Take care.
It’s not just that `is` is too close to the word business. The way I see it, it looks like `buslnessis` at first glance. Lol!

Suzanne,
I think the difference between winners and losers is that winners keep moving forward despite all of these setbacks. That is what you did by attending this meeting even though everything was working against you. There is little doubt with determination like that, you are on your way to reaching the goals you have set for yourself.
The one thing that is really great about days where everything goes wrong like that is the feeling we get after that last event is finished. You get this great feeling and self esteem boost that says “Hell yeah! I did it.”

It takes perseverance in business in order to succeed. Never give up. When you take one step back, it is to make a better step forward.
I also have those days, however, situations in which everything goes wrong motivate me to action, to find other solutions.
thanks a lot

Incomes and market share grow when as buyers the best clients are involved. The best clients are what appreciate us, and our services — is especially high. When the client appreciates us, becomes less sensitive to the prices, and it helps us to protect itself from pricing wars. As a result our clients do repeated purchasings and recommend us to other buyers. In turn it reduces advertizing costs and other marketing courses.
