Thesis WordPress Theme – Quick Review

by Suzanne on April 6, 2009

*

I’ve been working hard at one of my new websites (The Destination Wedding Site) and I decided to give the Thesis WordPress theme a try. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the theme and so far so good.

It was written by a couple guys who know a lot about SEO so it’s a very SEO friendly theme and I love that!

The theme is very easily customizable. You can use a two column or three column in a bunch of different configurations with a simple click of a button – sweet. There is a Thesis admin section right inside your WordPress admin panel so you can make most of your changes right there while logged in to WordPress.

So far, the only thing I’ve tried to do outside the admin panel was to add my own header image and that didn’t go so well. As you know, I’m not very techie at all so whenever I come to something that involves code I usually expect to mess it up the first try … and I did. Well, a huge “THANKS” to Bey Luen, of BlogHighlight, for helping me get it working. I followed a tutorial on his blog and when it didn’t work right (shocker LOL) I used his contact form and he helped me immediately and without making me feel *dumb* at all.

Overall, from what I’ve read (a LOT) and from my experience the Thesis theme is a total winner! It’s much less expensive than having a theme designed for you and has a lot more to offer than any of the free themes I’ve seen out there. They also have a support forum where the creators are very active and seem to help everyone when needed.

Take a Quick Look at Thesis WordPress Theme!

Let me know if you have any questions about the Thesis theme and I’ll answer what I can and go find answers to what I can’t. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Congratulations on the new blog – it looks great!

Looks like you and I are on the same page today! I also blogged about a new site I just completed using a premium theme (but not the same one you used).

Hey Suzanne

I used to think that Thesis is the ultimate theme till I wanted to change the background and add header to it. It can be a pretty daunting task for anyone with little CSS experience.

Till I found FlexSqueeze.

OK it might not have the best typography but everything and anything is tweaked within the theme control panel. From changing the background, header, resizing the width of sidebar, adding adsense, just to name a few.

If that’s not the true definition of “not touching a single line of code”, I don’t know what is.

Don’t get wrong. I love Thesis. I love it because I know how to fiddle with the code but others might not find it as user-friendly as it seems to be.

Oh, nice header too.

Talk to you soon.

Yan
PS: I still love Thesis.

Yan, I found the same thing with the WP Theme – if I didn’t know how to work in code, I’d have been lost! Important thing for WordPress newbies to consider before paying for a premium theme…

i guess everything “techie” is a challenge for me so just expect them all to be that way! LOL … i’m used to googling everything that i don’t know how to do or i have a couple of forums where i can go to get help too. this theme uses “hooks” so it’s a little different too. today i’ll be trying to do some other stuff to the new site so i’ll let everyone know how i do with it ;)

Very nice theme. I checked it for hidden links like it’s often on free wordpress themes. These links can bury your site in google and you should avoid them at any costs!

@vaillant ~ could you please share what you mean by “hidden links” so we all know what to look for? and possible how to check for these in other themes … thanks! *SmiLes* S

Hi Suzanne
Another great timely post.
I have now had my own photo blog for more than 3 months nows, thanks mostly to tips on your blog.
Like many bloggers I guess the more you do it the more you think about changes for the better. I keep looking at what others do and wonder about the easiest way to smoothly change.

Yeah it’s a very nice theme. I’ve used it for a while and I was extremely pleased with it. The fact that it’s SEO-friendly draw me to it in the first place but after I played around with it I just couldn’t make myself change it to anything else.

Suzanne,
I haven’t actually. Hidden links are popular in free wordpress themes -
mainly in footer section. In free wp themes there are usually 3 or more
links to sites to boost their rankings. Often after few months these domains
are bought by porn sites and this could lead to google ban or filter.
With custom theme you should not worry!

Wow, great post as well as WP theme.

The people done that are probably familiar with the users vision and the latest SEO tendencies. really nice design – but haven’t seen graphics in the posts, which is kind of … I don’t know – empty. Also…thinking of ico icon will be a good thing. But anyway, the site is a great and think will have a lot of people visiting it.

There are a number of good free and paid blogging themes out there, picking a theme is an important step of the blogging process as it affects bounce rate and average time spent on site.

Myself I picked the minimalist theme that originally came with blogger and tweaked it – let me know what you think about it Suzanne… but anyway ive always considered the thesis theme and I still having doubts… let me know what u guys think

The theme is very neat and clean, I like the header photo very much. But it is little plain for a wedding site , I think it can be little more colorful so it can attract more female as those spend more time on wedding sites.

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Till now Wordpress has been fairly good, but it lacked some customization options. Or maybe I just wasn’t aware of them .. Anyway, with Thesis I can finally make my blog look the way I like it, without being a geek. Thanks!

What’s popular to some isn’t to others and useless to the rest. They’ve done it in the past of course.

The Thesis Wordpress theme has become really popular indeed – for obvious reasons. Your header image looks really nice. Good thing there’s a lot of people out there who’s willing to give a helping hand.
